NARRATIVE DISCOURSE ANALYSIS Narrative discourse analysis is an unobtrusive methodology that explores the meanings, structure, and function of narrative messages. PURPOSES It aims to achieve one or more following four purposes: ü     Descriptions ü     Inferences ü     Interpretations ü     Criticism Descriptive analysis is expository .spelling out the meaning, organizational features, and functional of narrative message. Inferential analysis draws conclusions about phenomena external to a message based on salient message characteristics. Interpretation goes beyond inference and speculates about the intrinsic content of a message and its relation to extrinsic phenomena. Criticism involves an explicit discussion of the meanings, structures and functions of the narrative discourse based on a set of evolution criteria. CONTENT ANALYSIS – AN INTRODUCTION Content analysis is a research tool used to determine the presence of certain words or concepts within texts or sets of texts. Researchers quantify and analyze the presence, meanings and relationships of such words and concepts, then make inferences about the messages within the texts, the writer(s), the audience, and even the culture and time of which these are a part. Texts can be defined broadly as books, book chapters, essays, interviews, discussions, newspaper headlines and articles, historical documents, speeches, conversations, advertising, theater, informal conversation, or really any occurrence of communicative language. COHORT ANALYSIS Cohort was one of the ten divisions of military legion to the Rome .For research purpose a cohort is any group of individuals who are linked some way or who have experienced the same "significant event" in a given period.
